Landscape Tip of the Month: May 2004
Now is the time to lower the mowing height
on your over-seeded lawn. Maintain a good watering schedule
during this transition. There is an old practice of withholding
water from your lawn in order to transition from winter to
summer; this practice is actually harmful to your permanent
grass.
As the daytime temperatures get into the 90’s you will
see your winter lawn starting to die off. Do not be alarmed
if you see the tips of the grass browning out. Now is the
time to fertilize using triple super phosphate. There is no
nitrogen in triple super phosphate, nitrogen is what makes
your winter lawn green. The triple super phosphate will encourage
root growth of your summer lawn.
Let’s review;
1. Lower the mowing height on your mower.
2. Maintain a good watering schedule (2-3 times a week).
3. Fertilize with Triple Super Phosphate (0-45-0).
